Myotherapy Melbourne (Brunswick & Niddrie)

Northern Myotherapy specialise in the treatment of soft tissue – muscle, ligament, tendon and fascia. The purpose of our treatments is to ease or discontinue pain, re-establish and preserve this tissue function, to prevent injuries and accelerate healing. While the main focus of a treatment is on soft tissue, this will also provide added benefits to your nervous, skeletal, circulatory and lymphatic systems, creating a holistic approach to treating your presenting complaint.

The Northern Myotherapy Melbourne team are highly trained individuals, equipped with skills gained from a variety of professional placements such as; AFL and VFL teams, state-level cricket, NRL teams, soccer clubs and Australian Open Tennis. Our therapists are also trained to treat Workplace Injuries and injuries as a result of daily life activities.

Comprehensive assessment of your posture and body mechanics allows for our therapists to develop a holistic treatment plan to relieve pain via manual therapy, exercise prescription, postural awareness, and education. Combining techniques from studied modalities, to treat and give specific advice on how to best manage your injury, presenting condition, or pain.

Unlike many companies offering injury recovery treatment, we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all recovery/treatment plan. Whether you are an elite athlete or suffering from everyday aches and pains, at Northern Myotherapy we pride ourselves on achieving results for everyone. Our range of therapists and the skills they bring to Northern Myotherapy allow us to offer an unrivaled range of treatments, tailored for you and your injury.

All myotherapy appointments at NM last for 45mins. We pride ourselves on the fact that the therapist spends the entire 45 mins with the client. This allows for a proper examination, treatment and home advice if required.

Myotherapy and remedial massage are covered under the ancillary or extras cover of most major health funds. The amount covered may vary depending on level of cover.

Both our Niddrie and Brunswick Myotherapy clinics in Melbourne offer HICAPS facilities allowing for on the spot rebates.

Whilst we commonly receive referrals from other allied health professionals, you do not need a referral to make an appointment with one of our staff.

The number of appointments really depends on the problem and individual.

After a through assessment your therapist will put in place a treatment plan that is patient specific aimed at restoring function.

Myotherapy is a form of physical therapy that focuses on the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain and associated pathologies.

A myotherapist incorporates trigger point therapy and a wide range of soft tissue massage and manipulation including: muscle energy technique, dry needling, and joint mobilisation.

Any x-ray, scan or MRI reports for recent and or current injuries if you have them and if they are relevant. You may also like to bring some comfortable clothing such as shorts and a t-shirt.

Confusion between remedial massage therapy and myotherapy is understandable given that both modalities treat a range of non-specific soft tissue pain and ailments. The primary distinction between the two is the fact that myotherapists use a much broader range of massage techniques.

Myotherapists complete an advanced diploma of remedial massage. The additional things covered in an adv dip are dry needling, advanced assessment, exercise rehabilitation, ultra sound, tens and cupping. In general a myotherapist has a broader range of techniques to use in treatment.

Myotherapists are members of associations such as the Myotherapy Association Australia (MAA) which allow them to receive health rebates from private health funds when they graduate. Physiotherapists are regulated by AHPRA, which allows them to work in hospitals.

Many physiotherapists practice the same types of techniques as myotherapist, including soft tissue techniques, mobilisations, client education, etc. Some physiotherapists also practice dry needling, though this is not included in their undergraduate degree as it is in the Bachelor of Health Science (Myotherapy) degree.
